They guys are right go by own riding schedule or style if you ride hard, i.e. hard launches, power shifts high lots of stop and go traffic which is very hard on oil.
if you are only riding from spring to fall and have low miles once a season seems reasonable, As I live in the Southern Califronia desert and ride almost year round, the oil in my bike gets a work out, I change my oils every three months, I do lots of city riding, sitting at lights, getting behind slow moving, road blocking crap wagon...
Sorry drifted off there for a moment,
IMHO change you oil if you think you need it,it never hurts to give your bike fresh oil, your engine and tranny will love you

and an oil change is a LOT cheaper than a new engine
Oil conversations on all boards about anything that uses oil will yield you a ton of views.
remember, there is a difference in requirements for an air cooled engine or water cooled.
The oil is intended to cool an air cooled engine more than others, so is changed more often in an air cooled engine.
....no area to be cheep.

No doubt!
My line of work has involved engines in general, from bikes, to cars, to boats. One thing that is undeniable is that frequent oil changes are a good thing. I have 70000 miles on my ZX12r and they have not been easy miles, nor have they been abusive.I Change my oil religiously every time i change tires [2-2500] miles and have been using synthetic since 3000 miles. I started with regular Mobile 1 car oil and ran that up till 40000 miles and then switched to Shell Rotella Synthetic for the last 30000

There is no harm in changing oil after 5000 miles.
