I hear about how much some sports figures get paid and I was wondering if you guys think Nascar drivers get paid too much or do you think they don't get paid enough?

I don't even have any idea how much they get paid.... it doesn't usually seem to be made public, like the stick and ball "salaries" are....

They get paid just the right amount... They have a contract to get paid with sponsor money, plus they get a portion of the purse based on performance... That's just how it should be...

They get paid what the market is willing to pay.

The fair market price is the right price.

Driver income is hard to decipher. They get a base salary from their team. They get 35-50% of the race purse. They get varying percentages of merchandising profits. There is also a performance based bonus program. But figuring out who makes what is not easy.

But just like every sport, there are some who are over paid, some under paid and those getting what they deserve.

I think most of the guys would do it for a lot less money. But you certainly can't begrudge anyone for wanting to make a buck. I know if my employer came along and offered me a seven-figure salary, I'd take it... then spend my time proving that I was "worth it."

Remember when Casey Atwood filed his lawsuit against Fitz-Bradshaw a few years ago. I believe his income was somewhere close to a half-million dollars that year. And this was for a guy who was barely in the top 20 in the Busch Series standings at the time of his release.

Umm, I think they get paid just right.

well consider the danger involved, how many other sports have a real chance of loosing their life. a seat belt or something could go bad, you just never know, so with that in perspective do they get paid too much??

Another way to look at is they chose the profession and knew the dangers beforehand. It's always the fans who pay those mega-salaries indirectly. Go to nascar.com and see where they are going to hide some of their earnings in the Sheridan Ridge project.

When this kind of discussion comes up one always has to wonder, ...

Do people think that other people are paid "too much" because they are jealous that no one thinks that they're own skills and talents are worth that much?

I must confess that I DO think some sports figures get paid way too much for what they do but I don't think Nascar drivers do. I don't think there are too many sports where the guy could lose his life before the end of the game.
