I had no idea we were talking about a "sport", my bad, I thought it was a lifestyle/hobby.

how so? traditional hot rods were/are based on 50's speed equipment used at dry lakes such as El Mirage. How is an overweight car with air bags, hydrolics and a ton of paint has anything to do with a car like this?

your comment alone is a testiment to your nieveness. Im certainly not trying to stir the #### pot, but lets break it down.

when hot rodding began, yes it was all about stripped down fast cars, and as builders grew then came the era of taildragger sleds and customs, which eventually gave birth to the lowrider scene.

Lowriders and hot rods have sooo many parallell likeness' its rediculous, and only narrow minded inexperienced people cant see the difference (or even realize it for that matter)

bellflower cars are testiment to early lowriding, custom sleds gave the the idea of candy paint jobs and frenching or shaving. speed,.. well speed has always been an influence in any automotive genre.

here at my shop we build full custom cars, whether it be lowriders, taildraggers, rods, or customs. its all the same, its all CUSTOMIZING. you cant fully understand your desired sport without fully understanding the others that so closely surround it
no, you said HOT RODS, not CUSTOMS, I know Eddie Martinez and Larry Watson, two of the best from the 50's. Custom cars were built back in the 1920's, after all, Duesenburgs had custom coach builders making bodies for their cars. Yes, Customs have many things in common with lowriders, and my own uncle had a 1953 Chevy that sat a cigarette pack high. My dad has built a custom 1940 Ford coupe, and Martinez did the interior. Now, my dad is building a traditional flathead powered 1932 Ford highboy roadster, I guarantee that it will not be a custom, but a true, traditional hot rod. Trust me, there is no naivety about hot rods and customs in my mind. I grew up with magazine editors showing up in my dad's garage (Frank Oddo, Street Rodder, Bob McClurg, Mustang Illistrated, plus a few more). I choose my words carefully, and I still stand by my original question.

As for similarities for Customs, Kemps and Lowriders, you can look at the items that you mentioned, as well as (in some cases) air suspension, killer sound systems, $20,000 in paint.....

traditional hot rods spawned customs and sleds,.. thus spawning the inevitable lowrider of today, its all a breakoff of the original.

like always.. i'm a little late to da party.. but the trouble makers here now..

great show, could be improved on. ie.extend to 1 hour. focus on builds or perhaps have episodes that feature certain clubs or cities. show some more behind the scenes stuff.

like when someones car has problem and he can call 9719237428 fellow lowriders that are always down to come pull all nighters just to get the car rolling. thats real story of lowriders. that negative image people are familiar with from movies and tv, is so inaccurate.

for those of you, who complain speed should focus on performance and racing. do you have those same criticism when it comes to shows like Car Crazy?

ok, now who's got my drink? wink
