IROC Goes Out on the Auction Block

I was at Riverside Raceway for the 73 Can-Am race and the first IROC race. Emerson Fittipaldi, who had never seen the track except for a ride around it in a street car, promptly put one of the brightly painted Porsches on the pole. When he missed the driver’s meeting he had to start at the back of the grid. Obviously not happy, he told ABC’s Jackie Stewart that he was “no school boy Jackie” but to no avail. Riverside was a great track and the IROC was a lot fun to watch there.

Who can forget Dale Earnhardt Sr. giving Jr. a “HELLO” bump in the IROC race at Daytona.
