Dan Jones sure has a tough time believing them. After their leaky, sticky and faulty fuel systems failed on their new Panoz cars early last season, Jones’ company was contracted to save them. Now Jones is a well-liked, smart racer who is universally respected. He busted his ass and got every car fixed in time for Portland and they performed flawlessly the rest of 2007. His reward? His $300,000 bill has never been paid. He borrowed money to make payroll and is nearly out of business. He finally sued Champ Car last week.

That is what CC’s “five year plan” and the DP01 did for Dan Jones.

Now, I’m not a KK and GF apologist.......  they clearly are clueless.  But Robin actually makes TG come off as if he’s a stand up guy.  Anybody who followed open wheel for the past 15 years knows that TG is as underhanded and just as much of a snake as the three amigos.  This isn’t the first time a unification attempt has been made, in fact it’s probably the 4th or 5th time now?  And if I remember correctly, all the other attempts were squandered away by the IRL braintrust.  Robin, lets be a little realistic here.

You’re right, this isn’t the first time this has happened. The other times it happend, RM was very harsh on TG for once again failing to reunite OWR. But in this situation, it is the Champ Car owners that are holding up progress, not TG. He went to japan to try and get motegi moved to make room for long beach. Its now in the hands of the amigos. Its not that RM is making TG look like a stand up guy, its the amigos and thier cluelessnes that are doing that. If TG was the one screwing up unification this time RM would be attacking him just as he is the amigos. You are the one who needs to be more realistic.

so all is forgiven because TG makes a last stand offer for an acquisition rather than a merger, albeit 5 years too late?

Thats not what i said. Every time TG has screwd up unification efforts Robin let everyone know about it and then some. But this time around TG seems to be making an effort to make this work and the amigos are the ones screwing it up. There is no reason for RM to mention all the times TG screwed up (although thats what you want) when we are focused on whats happening NOW. Not 5 years ago, NOW. If TG were screwing it up now, RM would be all over him, but he’s not, the amigos are.

I would go straight to TG and sell them to him.

If I was Walker and someone was willing to buy my Champ Car equipment, I would feel like I just hit the Lottery. Wow!

I don’t know about you, or all the IRL only crowd.... but if a TRUE merger would have happened 5 years ago.... we would all be having a much better off season, not to mention some fantastic racing for the past few seasons.  Why should I ignore that?
