That's one of the prototypes for the abortive smaller-than-a-Giulia small-displacement Alfa, no?

No.
Actually not a bad guess, I can see where you might think so. While the coachbuilder is Italian, the chassis is not.

Is the chassis German?

No, the chassis is not German. While the chassis used was produced in large numbers (over 440,000 in all variants), this particular version saw just three examples completed before the project was shelved.

Nope, not Renault, in fact not French. So far we have determined that it has an Italian body and a mass-produced chassis that isn't French, German or Italian.

Yep, that's the one . . . the Hillman Imp by Zagato, or more properly, the "Zimp". I hated to give it away with the "British chassis" clue, but what are ya gonna do? Apparently there were three of them made in an attempt to interest Hillman in a small series-production run - but no dice.

Well the RHD steering wheel was there for all to see all along. My first hunch after the Alfa and VW theories were shot down was that it must be Imp-based (was there any other rear-engine car from England?), but just didn't bother to do any research 'til this morning.
