i agree, the dallarha is an ugly lovechild between...well lets not go there, nevertheless it would be a shame to develop a car thats faster than the dallarha to only place it in a carbon fiber coffin!

I have been a CART/Champcar fan for 20 years.
I hated the IRL until they started running some road courses.
I still like Champcar more - but you know something-

If Kalkhoven & Forsythe screw it up this time -
as they seem to be indicating - all real race fans should just boycott
their series - or whats left of it - it breaks my heart - I live 10 miles from Long Beach
but this is it - last chance - I will not be there for the first time in 20 years

If you are a CART fan or an IRL fan you know that unification is the only way to safe Open Wheel racing. As a fan what can I do? Does Honda/Motegi have phone number/ email we can use to leave a message and let them know what the fan feels about this?(Preferable a number in the states!)

I hope these 2 major series finialy merge because it has been to long. It is a shame open wheel racing had to lose so many good drivers to nascar because they couldnt keep up. I think if merge together drivers wont be leaving to nascar.

Open wheel peace?  More like one piece missing given that CART is now on death watch.  Since the split, they have only themselves to blame with years of poor interpersonal and team relations, the wrong people hired on a consistent basis in nearly every position within Champ Car, too much focus on races outside the domestic market, (c’mon, how much of a gem is a race in Seoul?), inability to market the series, scattered tv coverage...I’m certain others can add to the list of dubious methods, decisions, philosophies of those who were, have been, are in charge now with Champ Car.  Looks to be that TG is the only open wheel game in town now.  Hopefully some of those who meant well for Champ Car since the split will join forces with TG and build anew, a strong North American based, temp and permanent road course and oval series that has great market visibility, depth in competition, and a few well chosen, effectively promoted race venues outside the continent.

Cmon, I am so sick of people looking for someone to blame for all this. Quit whining and hating and get on board. One series is good for the future of open wheel racing in America. Lets get on with it. The market(no matter how subsidized) has decided, champ car is headed back to bankruptcy court. TG will buy the dates he wants, make deals individually with Derrick Walker and the CC owners who want to race, and lets go. One TV deal, One sponsor for the series, one arena for manufacturers and craftsmen.

One series in the France model of a governing body deciding whats best for the benefit of the entire series, not a group of millionaires flaunting egos, in their hobby time. Hate TG like you hate NASCAR, but hopefully it will be because your fav driver is in the news on the track.

I’m all for unification, will tolerate all the mundane ovals, but as Mario Andretti put it best, “that stupid car” the IRL uses, that’s where I draw the line.  How many 2-3 story aerials will it take before the IRL, the media, and fans understand how insane it is to race those “stupid cars” on those 1.5 mile high banked ovals designed for stock cars that go no more than 200 mph?  It’s a perfect recipe for a modern day LeMans-type disaster in which several fans get killed and seriously injured, and even if we are back to one AOW series, the sport isn’t nearly strong enough to survive the backlash that will occur if and when the IRL’s luck runs out, and one of those aerials happens on the front stretch of Texas, Kansas, Chicago, Kentucky. Homestead, even Kentucky, and lands a car, or enough of a car, to end the sport of AOW once and for all.

Just get rid of tht stupid IRL car before a bunch of fans get killed.  Everything, I mean everything else is secondary.

Today’s Stock Cars can hit 230 at Talladega withouth restrictor plates- but your right, it will probably kill a few fans if they ever went back.  I like oval racing with open wheelers, but just look back last year with Dario alone and you can see why any open wheel series has to have road courses for half the races.  To many drivers and fans would be hurt.

I hate the idea of T George running the show, and the Dallara car, but these series have to get together for any future OW racing to exist. I guess the double header ALMS/CCWS my family and I are going to at Road America in August is going to be a single header. Hope 2009 is a better year for all open wheel fans!

This is a scam. As of today Champ Car is going about their business, while Tony George has Miller writing these articles. I can tell all the readers, Champ Car is not folding, and as of today have no plan to even merge. And this is from deep inside the series (a place Miller is forbidden nowadays.
My beef is with Miller here. Sure the 2 series’ are going to merge, so Miller has been reporting a merger now for 5 years. But why hasn’t Miller written about the “REAL” issue here? The Indy 500 is in danger of imploding. The truth behind this panic attack by Tony George is Honda is out the door after this season! Thats the real story. So George is ready to talk now. Of course he is Robin.
Why not cover the loss of Franchitti, or Hornish to Nascar? What I am getting at is Miller is being paid by George to write this stuff. And it all has to be positive towards the IRL (which I have nothing against) it’s their owner I dislike.
Tell the truth Robin. OW fans deserve it. Sure Champ Car and the IRL are in trouble! But say so on the IRL’s side as well.
Why not report some positive things? Again this is coming from inside Champ Car. No spin, not Millerified!
