Will a PS2 game work in a PS3 player?

Just wondering if I get the F1 06 PS2 version what it will look like in a PS3 if I got a PS3 player later?

OR

Would the PS3 version that comes out later in Feb would it work in a PS2 player?

Will one notice any difference between the PS2 version vs the PS3 version if you did not have a Hi Def TV? (Do you only gain by having a PS3 AND Hi Def TV?)


(I already know that there is not a US version PS2 game as I will Modify my current PS2 to play the European version)

The PS3 should play most PS2 games, but the PS2 will not play any PS3 games. There won't be any graphical difference between playing a PS2 game on the PS2 or the PS3. As far as HD goes, PS3 games will still look better on regular TVs but if you're going to get a $500-$600 console, you really want to get an HDTV to take full advantage.

Well that's no good. They had a PS3 sitting at our local Best Buy out front. I guess demand has cooled. Can't imagine why...

Actually, I have a PS3 & I have to say that it is pretty damn cool. I think the problems with the PS2 games running on the PS3 come from the fact that the developers couldn't possibly have designed games with the power of the PS3 in mind. Hopefully, once Sony reviews all the data (keep in mind, the PS3 hasn't even launched yet in Europe) they will release a firmware update that best solves all the problems.

In the meantime, it's not that hard to switch the video cable from PS2 to PS3 and back again. It requires one whole unplug motion, and another whole plug in motion. I have to do this to play any PS2 games with FFB. I know, it's inconvenient and consumers shouldn't have to do it, but come on, it's not that bad.

Its more than that.

I have read a lot of article's the last month about stores not been able to shift PS3's.

One store was quoted as saying they sold 45 Wii's in one day & 20 XB360 yet despite having enough stock they only sold 1 PS3 & that was returned & traded for a Wii a few days later.

Sony's sales in the US & Japan are said to be as much as 85% LESS than expected.

Not if you're using the HDMI like I suspect a lot of PS3 owners are. I don't own a PS3 and don't have any immediate plans to buy one, it's just a little odd that they couldn't get this to work properly

There is no difference between PS2 discs in a PS2 system or a PS3 system. The graphics stay the same.
