Lets just hope he does better than the crashfest he had in 2005 when he wrote off 23 cars in 7-8 months.[/quote:fd2eed90d4]

Through all the years of success at Penske Racing i've not known of too many stupid decisions.[/quote:fd2eed90d4]OK here are a couple:

1.Kevin Cogan in 82

2.95 Indy qualifying

Briscoe "Inferno" will soon join this list.

He's been running a team since 1966, 41 years & all you could come up with is 2. I'd say that's a pretty damn good record.

1100 + starts

132 race wins

12 Nat. CS

14 Indy 500 wins

163 poles with 13 Indy poles

I'd say Roger knows how to make decisions.

I for one will be in Ryan's corner until he proves to be the 3rd bad decision.

A word of advice for him. Those positive results better come early and often.Without Toyota paying his way like 2005,I don't expect Roger to be as patient as Chip was.He also doesn't have any 3rd/4th driver buffer to protect him like Manning or J. Lazier

Briscoe is no slouch. He more than proved that in ALMS this past season and did rather well in the satellite Penske entry at Indy too.

Question is, who gets their first Indycar win in '08, Ryan or Danica?

After all the grief I've seen the Danica fanboys give Briscoe the last couple of years, how ironic it would be if Ryan got on the scoreboard first.

And every bit of that grief was deserved considering the number of cars that were dumped into the Spare Parts Bucket on the account of Briscoe's driving.

Want to see how bad Briscoe is ? Take a look at the drivers Toyota have fielded over the last few years in F1. Look at the drivers being conssidered by Toyota for this year's team. Briscoe was in line for one of those seats. Toyota has had the weakest driver line up in F1's recent history and Briscoe can't break through.

Redteam,
Man Roger must have fell & hit his head to sign such an awful driver. rolleyes I'd hate to be on trial with you as the judge. I wouldn't stand a chance. I would imagine Ryan is under a 1 year contract pending his success in 08. Anyway so what. If he don't work out RP will find another. You might want to contact him & tell him what a fool he is.

BTW if Danica wins a race in 08 i'll leave this forum. :!:

Actually, anyone who follows F1 will tell you that Toyota's decision to sign two F1 drivers, somewhat regarded as being overrated, based soley on the fact that they had the ability to win the occaisional GP is more of a reflection of Toyota's flawed management by commitee style than on Briscoe himself. It's always been Toyota's philosophy, that the more yen they spend, the more success that will come with it. The bigger the name driver they can get, the better they think they will go. However, without the right personnel, chemistry, and mental approach to the game, we have all seen that if there was ever an F1 team that spent more and achieved less, it has been Toyota.

I heard Briscoe say on Windtunnel last summer that the biggest problem with Toyota has been that the few times they went well in F1, they couldn't duplicate it because they couldn't determine or agree how they got there. So, it has always been one step forward, two or three back with them.

Briscoe was actually quite fast during his testing and Friday duties in '04, Toyota just had it in their head that Trulli and Half Schumacher were going to become their saviors. Even Mike Gascyone was convinced that his designs were world beaters and it was only the drivers he had had in the past (Panis, Da Matta), that prevented his cars from seeing their full potentional. How did that work out for him and Toyota?

Briscoe is in a better environment with Penske now. Had his confidence built up with a great run at Indy this year and a fantastic ALMS campaign in the Porsche RS Spyders. They have confidence in him too so we could well see a Ryan Briscoe take the Indycar series by storm in '08. A far cry from what we saw of him in '05.

Petersburg had yet another display of immaturityby playing bumper cars with his Porsche. This guy doesn't fit the mold of intelligent Team Penske drivers like Rick Mears,Emerson Fittipaldi,Gil De Ferran, and Mark Donohue(RIP).He seems like one second away from a Kevin Cogan incident.

There are no drivers today who fit the mould of these drivers. If there were they wouldn't be dumped every other year & been given a multi year contract. Teams have turnovers like fast food restaurants. Face it, the CART era is history & will never return. The water is up to the chin of the ICS. Feeder series like IPS, altho a good series, will not likely save it. Mears & deFerran clones will never reappear. OW doesn't have the appeal it once had cause too many drivers have their eye on the prize...............NASCAR. rolleyes

I trust Penske's judgement. If it don't produce i'll just wait for the next one & the next & the next.
