Ah, the DR Field and Brush mower. Now those were some old-school ads. There was something almost artistic in the way that guy would cut down a forest with his push mower.

Anyway, I didn't see Danger Sullivan again today. POWER TO THE PEOPLE!!!!

Speed often has an interesting mix of commercials. During some F1 races a few years ago you'd see an elegant Porsche commercial immediately followed by an incredibly cheezy ad for the "Mullets Rock!" compilation CD featuring several actors with mullets (natch) playing lots of air guitar (double natch).

It's funny when you go back and watch old races and the commercials that were there at the time... Some I am glad I don't hear any more.

"The wheels go round and round, keep it movin'"

Gawd, I hated that commercial. And it played during EVERY commercial break. At least "Mullet's Rock!" was entertaining in an anthropological kind of way.

The whole idea behind commercials is to get you to remember the product/service/etc.
Sounds like this one worked. wink

That's a fair point, but I think it's memorable for all the wrong reasons, like getting punched in the face.

And just think, I thought it was only me that was a little disappointed with the associative factor of the Castrol ads.

Who ever they are trying to indenture is not on my Christmas card list, so I just switched from Castrol ... and now I use Valvoline instead.

It was always my understanding that advertisements were to attract not alienate potential clients.

I do not need to be "insulted" into buying a specific manufacturers product.

Goodbye Casrtrol ... Hello Valvoline !!!

Oh, by the way Jack Links Jerky is right up there (or is it down) with Castrol regarding my shopping list!!!

I'll betSasquatch won't eat it either !!! wink

Several years ago there were the Budweiser frog commercials. A bunch of frogs croaked something that sounded like "Budweiser. " They were, I thought, the most pointless, annoying, and irrelevant commercials; they gave me no reason at all to even think about drinking Budweiser. Yet those commercials have been found to be among the most enjoyable, memorable, and presumably effective commercials of all time; even I still remember them. I suspect that those commercials were intended to implant the Budweiser name in the minds of very young children, future customers, who found frogs croaking "Budweiser" somehow entertaining. Advertising is strange.

F1 oil doesn't stink! Or get dirty like the Nascar oil.
