I think nascar has a winner with the COT on the short tracks, RP tracks and road courses, however I think they need to make some changes on the 1.5 miles tracks, what I saw tonight was sad, a car that pretty much sucked in traffic won the race over a car that had new right sides, it was the same ole story noone can pass the leader, cars that suck in traffic come to life out front, even if they aren't that great a car. I know we saw it a little with the old cars but I think this car is worse. or maybe it was just charlotte and its newer pavement??

blame the tv director for NOT showing the side by side farther back in the field. They mentioned Hornish passing his way through the field. They mentioned Johnson doing it, Stewart doing it, Kahne doing it. They didn't really show the passes (Hornish once or twice) but there was definitely action going on back there. At one time they were on the outside wall camera and you had the 20 and two other cars all side by side coming out of the corner yet immediately they cut to a shot of the leader being way out in front.

For last night being Humpy's premier event it was the snoozer of the year. The race is about competing for the million dollars not battling for 15th on back. It's the car not the track or tires.

Well, it's the one event of the year where NASCAR and Humpy Wheeler actively wants crashes and tempers flaring and guys intentionally spinning others out. None of which happened.

Jimmie was making his way through the field, but it took a long time for him to accomplish a pass, and if the guy in front of him decided that he didn't want him to go anywhere (as they often did toward the end of the segment) then he pretty much wasn't going to go anywhere. This is not a new story for the COT. It definitely needs help.

It's a double-edged sword. We're seeing drivers do things with these cars that they never would have been able to get away with before. They showed the video of the Busch brothers wrecking last year. I think in the COT Kurt goes on fine, and possibly Kyle saves it. I saw several instances last night of drivers getting into each other and the wall - incidents that in the past would have resulted in much more significant damage. I do believe that one of the reasons Kyle is so "exciting to watch" this year is because with the COT everybody else has become so boring. Kyle's aggressive nature has resulted in the most chance of seeing a wreck and therefore some "excitement."

I just don't get it. I thought the race last night was great. It had plenty of passing and battling for me. I don't see why anything needs to be changed.

Exactly when you can't pass with 4 new tires and the guys ahead of you have 25 laps on their tires that is going to make for some interesting decisions next Sunday.

I thought Biffle had the race in the bag with 2 fresh tires and Kahne drove away. Johnson held on to finish 4th.

This was more do with Lowes motorspeedway than anything else... does anyone else remember that almost all the races there have sucked for 3 years thanks to Humpy's "enhancements" to the track. The COT has produced some of the most exciting races in a long time, and made plate tracks actually worth watching.

agree with the COT comment, so many people was giving the COT thumbs up all year but after this 1 race they are back to last years comments "get rid of this car, bring back the old one". i really enjoy watching the COT

When new tires aren't any faster 25 lap tires its a pretty good indication that the tires are too hard.

Tires are part of the problem But the fact remains that these cars punch a big hole and create a wicked aero push. Plus they don't drive very well and all the drivers hate them.

From David Poole's column today...

In a larger sense, though, I think that if next Sunday's Coca-Cola 600 is the same kind of event -- where the leader can't be touched and track position is the be-all and end-all - I am going to have to say that NASCAR has to do something about the rules on this car.

I know fans will howl because they didn't change things last year when Hendrick Motorsports was dominating. But NASCAR can't spend this summer, with the economy like it's going to be, having races where the only place the leader gets passed is on pit road.

There are people who say the COT needs to be abandoned, but that's not going to happen. It does look like something is going to have to be done to change what's happening on the track, though.

Makes sense to me... NASCAR never seems to make any sense though.

With gas hitting $4.50 a gallon this summer tracks are going to have a hard time filling seats. Boring racing on the downforce tracks is going to reduce attendance even further. If I didn't live so close to MIS I doubt I would spend the money to go.

I can't even imagine how much the gas price increases are going to cost the RV crowd.

The race was billed as checkers or wreckers. Bring me a win or a steering wheel. One million dollars for the win. If it was one million for 15th I'm sure they would have been all over the battle. smile

School’s out… beware of dumb posts

Now that Ken Schrader’s in a Toyota, I expect him top 5 each week.
