BATHURST 1000 THREAD

So another year has passed and the mountain comes alive once again. Mount Panorama, Bathurst hosts another edition of the Bathurst 1000.

Opening practice has been held today (Australian Time) with Friday qualifying to determine spots 11-29 on the grid, and the traditional top 10 Shootout held on the Saturday before the 161 lap odyssey begins at 10:30 AM Australian Daylight Savings Time.

Co-Driver session 1 saw Warren Luff top the sheets from Tony D'Alberto, Alex Davison and Paul Radisich with times in the 2:10's and the 888 car (Craig Lowndes/Jamie Whincup who are gunning for 3 in a row, somthing that hasn't been done for 24 years) not bothering to go out in the session. Garth Tander was quickest in P2 from Craig Lowndes, Greg Murphy/J.Richards, Jason Bargwanna, Steven Richards/Mark Winterbottom, David Besnard and Rick Kelly all in the 2:09's, Car 14 of Brad Jones/Max Wilson didn't do a lap.

Time for a new AOW series

With thin guidelines for size, weight and horsepower, other than that, anything goes. Ovals, road courses, street courses, and DIRT. Any motor technology/propulsion technology would be usable. A true driver's series that Mario and AJ could've excelled in. OW racing globally has been destroyed by two men, it's time for someone to step up with something new, I don't know a single American auto racing fan who's happy, we all watch what we have to watch, let's watch something we love and want to watch, the way Indy used to be.

Karting Circuit for Sale in Iowa

First off, I should say that I'm not at all involved in the sale of this track, although I HAVE raced on it a few times and absolutely love it. So, since that's out of the way...

For years, Marshalltown Jet Karting has had its home at the Iowa International Raceway in Marshalltown, Iowa. The half-mile, undulating, paved road course has seen numerous IndyCar drivers grace its asphalt as well as karting champions from across the nation. The road course was an incredible series of bends and straights that saw even the rental karts reaching upwards of 50 mph on its backstretch. I had the priveledge to race on this course a few times a couple of years ago (hence my avatar), but when I got a big group of friends together last summer, I was in for a shock.

Whilst calling the owner of the track, I was puzzled by the fact that his phone number had been disconnected. I tried to find his website, but it was gone, too. I thus called the town's visitors bureau where I learned that the track was for sale, having been closed about a month earlier! I was stunned, to say the least, and a subsequent trip to the circuit (which is about half an hour away from me) indeed proved that the track, garages, and pagoda-like pressbox were for sale!

And so, I thought, where better than to propose an idea than to bring it to a group of people who are passionate about motorsports? And perhaps one of you out there would be willing to invest in this very nice circuit so people like me ( ) can enjoy it for years to come?

Petit v talladega

Last night I was riveted to the screen. What an amazing drive by McNish.....it was legendary. Starting 2 laps behind (without a lucky dog) fought like hell and on team orders assumed the lead to win a 10 hour race.

Fast forward to today. I watched the last 25 laps of talladega. Congrats Edwards you are da man! While I am certain you are an amazing driver you made millions happy by triggering the big one. We all watch nascar for the hilarious, though at times loss of breath, crashes we watch all other series for racing. WWF on wheels! Blocking is da schizz!!! Screw yas all!!

It must be a gas to be the butt of jokes, but without any pride you count green all night........for now.

Hello all, first let me explain the die bernie thing. I want Bernie Ecclstone to go away. Not die of course but move aside for someone new. The die bernie moniker was all I could think of at the moment of registering! Of course I wish no ill will on anyone, not even RISDO! That said as much as Bernie has done for F1 he's done as much for himself. At $5 Billion US dollar in wealth!!! I would like to see Bernie redeem himself to me. Hey...it's my blog!
Thinking back through the 2008 F1 season thus far, Silversone, Spa, and Monza are the clear stand outs as far as actual racing is concerned...what a treat...thanks Speed for giving them to us...even with David Hobbs but that's another forum.
What I think Bernie should do to redeem his soul is to give us back those long lost circuits that didn't survive the wonderful yet deadly 50's - 70's era of Grand Prix racing! In fact, or fiction maybe...I believe some of those circuits did not survive directly due to Bernie.
Lets dream for a moment and capture in our minds Kimi or Lewis or Felipe flying around a safe old circuit for the EU GP instead of an overblown kart track in Valencia. Just imagine modern F1 at places like Clermont Ferrand, the Nurburgring north circuit, or how about back to the "Glen" or St. Jovite? Zandvoort, Brands Hatch and maybe even Laguna Seca!
Why die Bernie? Aside from him needing to retire, he needs to dip into his massive wealth and he could if he wanted to and put a fraction into making an old circuit safe and let F1 do what it was meant...race on fast circuits with hills, valleys and history...just like Monza, Spa and Silverstone! Real circuits for real men!

Here is a question I am presenting to all here. Which driver would you have liked to see run in a race? This driver would be "before your time." Meaning he ran in races before you could have gotten to see him.

My choice, Duke Nalon running at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in the Novi Special. As you see from my name, I have an affection for these cars. Mr. Nalon was one of those who created the legend of the Novi.
