Last Show of 2008?

Come on Speed, give us more of Dave, or at least Wind Tunnel. I can't believe the show's off the air until February 15th ... that's ridiculous ... you could easily fill an hour every Sunday throughout the year. If Dave wants some time off I understand but keep the show on the air with guest hosts and perhaps different themes. Robin Miller could host open wheel night, DW could host tin top night, different drivers could host, there are ample opportunities to keep the show on the air from now till February.

NASCAR…becoming NAP-CAR?

What's the point to watching nearly-identical cars cruise for 480 miles, and start racing only in the last 20?

The way is now is about as exciting as sitting next to the Interstate watching traffic for three hours [although at least the cars on the Interstate are different.]

Some years ago, there was a cash bonus for the leader at the half-way point, which at least added a reason to lead.

What if Nascar added a points bonus at various laps or miles [100 laps or miles, 200 laps or miles...etc.] four or five times during the race? The field starts with 43 cars, so the leader at that lap [mile] would get 43 points, and the last placed car would get 1 point [or as many cars as were still running] and the entire field would have an incentive to race.

The overall points numbers would have to change to reflect finishing positions, but hey, it's only numbers.

With so much weekend TV competition [NFL, college football, etc.] advertisers are getting the short end of the stick if viewers like myself only watching the starts and finishes, and watching football, cutting the grass, or taking a nap during "cruise time".

Just a thought, but with NASCAR becoming more spec-racing and less interesting all the time, they need something to liven it up.

When Dave brought up the idea of NASCAR running 43 Toyotas, a Chevy fan stated that he would no longer watch NASCAR. I would like to know how he would feel about NASCAR running 43 Chevys.

My screen name should tell you what brand I'm loyal to, but I enjoy any kind of racing I can watch. I already tolerate 24 Hondas at Indy plus whoever builds those top fuel and funny car engines.

Wind Tunnel will introduce America to SCCA SOLO Racing?

What a suprise, Wind Tunnel will talk about SOLO racing on next week's show! Perhaps a Poll will let you know how many drivers show-up at these (1200) events across America each year. It sure would be an event to watch if Speed would pit a few of the very best Professional (NASCAR, Indy, or Dirt) drivers against some of the winners from SCCA SOLO Nationals, in a SOLO Event. If that is not fair, we do have a large number of Kids in Go Carts (under 14 year old) that will take on the Professionals. OK the Professional can drive new Corvettes!

There is a post in the iRacing.com forum at saying that John Henry will be on Wind Tunnel this Sunday Nov 2nd. Is this true? If so, does anyone know what questions are currently on queue?

NEED FOR SPEED WITHOUT TAKIN IT TO THE STREETS

I couldn't agree with Dave more regarding country club or resort racing. The biggest plus for this type of racing is the new road courses appearing throughout the country. The next best thing is it allows the average joe to satisfy the need for speed with out takin it to the streets (sorry Dobbie Bros.), showing my age here. A road course set amongst the natural beauty of an area is wonderful, to RACE YOUR OWN - BMW, Porsche, Vette, Acura, Neon, Lexus IFS, Miata or whatever you drive is 'priceless'. The only drawback ever mentioned is the price, which is relative. There is a country club style track being built in the Bluegrass state of Kentucky with a spring 2009 grand opening. It has elevation changes, historic corners (modeled after some of the most famous from around the world), great straight, different configurations all in a setting which typifies Kentucky. The cost will be 1/2 and in some cases 1/3 what you could pay elsewhere, but again it is relative. There are many of these courses being built around the country, do yourself a favor and visit one (some have one day trail memberships), or better yet join one that has reciprocal agreements with other tracks and enjoy many of your own racing vacations for years to come. The most important thing is ENJOY.

track drying idea

why not have each race team build a track drying car with all the decals like the race cars, but with out being actual racecars. the team sponsors would get extra reconition from the fans and during TV'd rain delays.
sponsors could also give rain out rides to people while drying the track.
having 43-50 extra cars running around the track along with the track and nascar vehicals track drying would be in creased. the cars could be street leagle and driven to the track(more sponsoe exposer) or hauled with the local show cars.or specailly biuld with exhaust pointing down toward the track for more drying effect.

some terams could even have 2-3 cars with different paint schemes from different sponsors, or even retro paint and or cars. I'd love to see a black 1988 monte carlo aero cuope with a big ole #3 on the side circling the track, even if it was only at 60mph in the rain.
