I just read on TF (yea, yea, I know) that De Ferran Motorsports has or is going to shut down. I thought they were in tight with Honda. Is there any truth to that rumor?

PLASTIC LAMENANTS?!

this is the rumour flying around right now and even though i cannot provide proof of it......it does sound very interesting so i figured i'd float it. partial alluminum construction (for stiffnesss) and the majority of the chassis being made of plastic lamenants. HELLUVA LOT cheaper than carbon and stands up pretty well with current testing guidelines for driver safety.....if they go that way. supposedly, they are talking about making it an injection molded single peice tub. i'd love to see something like this come to fruition. it would obliterate the excesses of chassis cost in a single blow. lets hope it's somethingwe see in the very near future.

Hey everyone, just got back from a meeting or two in Houston. Had some free time so I ran on over to Foyt Racing to say hello. Good times all around. AJ was his usual funny self. Apparently Lucy had been out of town and while she was gone AJ bought her a new Lexus, same color and everything as her old one. So she gets back home and calls AJ and says "what the hell were you driving my car for? You moved my seat." She has no idea it's actually a new car. So she hangs up and AJ is laughing about it because she has no clue and he says two minutes later the phone rings and she says, "now you've really done it, there's some lady talking to me and somebody put a screen on the dash." At this point AJ says he can't take it anymore and he tells her he bought her a new car.

It's a lot funnier to hear AJ tell it.

Got the dime tour of the place. They just got their new tub for 2010. It's still in CF and bare as a bride. No sidepods, wings, wheels or anything. Just the tub sitting on the stand waiting for all it's bits.

In the way-back garage outside the shop they have a couple pretty cool things. The first was this:

That's Vitor's Indy tub. It was a brand new car, had never seen a track until May. I should have taken a picture of what it should have looked like but didn't think about it at the time. Basically your feet are directly under the holes that are actually intact in the picture. Pretty scary, and pretty GREAT that Dallara builds a car that does it's job.

The other thing was the old Oldsmobile Aerotech car. this is what it used to look like:

In that same garage there is one that's in pieces. there's a nose kit and a rear body kit, and a tub that is seriously screwed up. The story I heard was that they thought someone hit a deer in it and killed the body other body and mangled the tub, so they had a good body kit and the mangled tub left. It was pretty cool though.

Changes in Month of May Schedule

Curt Cavin writes that Indy 500 qualifications will be held on one weekend only w/ Pole Day on Saturday May 22nd and Bump Day on Sunday May 23rd. Opening day will be one week later as well.

He says that it's being done to reduce costs for teams, the Speedway and IndyCar.
