How weird that there is an off weekend right before Labor Day Weekend. I would have thought they would have preferred to have an off weekend right before the Chase starts.

Texaco leaving NASCAR?: Sirius Speedway has learned that Chevron-Texaco will not return as sponsor of #42-Juan Pablo Montoya’s Dodge next season. The Texaco-Havoline brand is in the final year of its sponsorship contract with Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates, and company officials have reportedly decided to end their longstanding involvement in NASCAR. A spokesperson for Ganassi Racing said she had no knowledge of that decision today; which leaves the team in need of at least two new sponsors in 2009, and possibly three. Team owner Chip Ganassi recently parked the #40 Dodge driven by Dario Franchitti due to lack of sponsorship, and there are longstanding rumors that Target may not return to the #41 Dodge currently driven by Reed Sorenson.(Sirius Speedway/Motorsports Soapbox)(8-19-2008) Comment here

Glad to hear that the Nationwide boys will be racing on the FANTASTIC Iowa short track next year. Sad to see the Road Course go by the way side, but I can see why. Whats your guy's thoughts? I know I'm personally tickled pink that Nascar has FINALLY decided to realize that Richmond style tracks provide great racing and the boys oughta be on more of them. Can't wait!

Report: Mears to RCR

ESPN's NASCAR Now is reporting that Richard Childress Racing has signed Casey Mears, and that the official announcement will be made at Bristol.

Also of note, Mears is expected to drive the #07 Jack Daniels car with Bowyer moving to the General Mills #33 because of Casey's current sponsor (Kellogg's).

. . . hey Y'all . . . I am racefanrob, if you do0n't know who I am . . . I have been a Carl Edwards' fan since July 12th, 2003. That is when he won his first NASCAR evernt @ the Kentucky Speedway (I am from Ky and was there) in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. He is just one of the new phenominal drivers in our sport.
. . . as a Carl Edwards' fan, I feel all of us Carl Edwards' fans need a thread here on the Speedtv.com NASCAR Board to rave about our driver. This is the place !
. . . I also feel very strongly about Carl's chances of winning the Title this year in Cup. Even though Kyle Busch has been so stronge, I still believe that the #99 Office Depot Ford is the Team to beat. I am sure that as Carl Edwards' fans . . . that you also feel the same way as I do. Since we were predictably all over Tony Jr. last week...What's good for the goose is good for the gander.

No Jr., you actually led 43 laps second best out of all drivers today. Hard to drive out front like that? Hmmm Yes you likely would have finished somewhere around there but you failed to mention you got behind in your steering and tried knock down the wall..I'm glad I got to actually see what happened today because I haven't seen it reported yet.

What other pearls of wisdom does Jr. have here?

That's right it sure has..Even that season when you dumped Tony Jr. and you got progressively worse with the 2 or 3 other crew chiefs you went through and couldn't wait to get Tony back and then bring him with you to Hendrick.

It's Jr.'s inability to communicate what is going on with the car, that prevents his crew from making the right adjustments.

Last but not least Tony Jr. didn't drive it into the wall. The weak link has always been in the drivers seat and that is why Jr. will never win a title.

How bout it..UNBIASED race fans?

Why was Carl Edwards not penalized when he threw out a plastic bag from his ice or water on the track during green flag racing? The bag itself could have caused trouble on someone's grill.

Gibbs face penalties after trying to manipulate dyno numbers

"Joe Gibbs Racing’s Nationwide Series teams will be penalized for attempting to manipulate the throttle so NASCAR would not get a true horsepower reading when putting their cars on the chassis dynamometer following the Carfax 250 at Michigan International Speedway, NASCAR spokesman Jim Hunter said Saturday night.

Both the No. 18 and No. 20 teams face penalties for what was a blatant attempt to interfere with the inspection process, Hunter said.

“What they did was not in effect during the race,” Hunter said. “They didn’t have an illegal part or engine during the race. They tried to do something involving a magnet so that we wouldn’t get a true reading on the dyno.”

Do you stick with the driver or the team when a driver leaves a team?

I was curious how many fans stick with the driver when the driver leaves a team or do you stick with the team?

My sister stuck with the 18 team when Kyle B took over the 18 team and I thought it was an odd idea to stay with the team and number.
