It was interesting watching the debut of "Wrecked" a couple of weeks ago. Speed has been hyping this show for months and I thought it might actually prove kind of interesting. In some ways it is better than I had hoped; in some ways it is worse (why does every "reality" show focus on a ridiculous, invented blowhard?).

But it was interesting watching how Speed marketed it. "New show!" "Don't miss the first episode!" But the best was, "Tune in Thursday!" Why, exactly? They showed 2 new shows on Thursday, then re-ran that hour what, a half a dozen times? Then there were 2 new shows the next Thursday, re-ran as an hour again and again. Have they run a marathon of all 4 shows yet? It's inevitable.

People make a note to tune into and watch great shows: It's how you build an audience. M*A*S*H, Seinfeld, Friends -- geez, The Fugitive . . . all had regular time slots and people looked forward to tuning in, even after the invention of VCRs and now DVRs. It's what get talked about at the water cooler the next day. Speed, on the other hand, takes a new concept and then immediately waters it down to a watery gruel. There are episodes of Pinks that are kind of interesting (but none of that stupid biker family in Texas) but where do you find them? My digital channel guide tells me when a show is new and when it is a repeat, and there are entire nights on Speed when every single show is a re-run . . . and that block is itself re-run the same night!

The result is that, after watching Despain on Sunday night, my TV doesn't get tuned to Speed until Friday (truck or F1 racing) or Sunday, for Raceday. My TV was stuck on Speedvision, but Speed has limited its schedule so much that it just doesn't show anything interesting, and shows it's own shows until you can mute the sound and speak every line of dialogue. If Speed doesn't respect it's product, there's no reason why I should. And to those TV moguls who program Speed but know nothing about racing who will say "It's the only way we can afford to produce new shows," I say cough up a buck or two (instead of thousands) and run tape-delayed foreign racing series at night (including your own Touring Car and GT series) and give us what we watch Speed for: Racing.

Until then, I'll catch the myriad of Wrecks re-runs whenever I'm bored and whenever they're reasonable new. And marking Thursday night with a star just ain't gonna happen.

The basis of this channel is motorsport, yet its brutal to see the racing fans jump through hoops to watch real racing, while all the little gimmick loser shows get forced down or mouths.

F1 especially run friday practice live or almost usually 11am - 2pm ish, anyone who has a job can't see this, and then they play the reply at 3 am which is crazy. And why they play Gp2 races before F1 races just blows me away, theres no effort in trying to market GP2 when its aired 5 or 6am sunday morning.

Now these gimmick race tv shows , who by the way are an absolute disgrace to motorports, get played 24 hours steady replayed in the middle of the night. MEANWHILE these maggets on the Speed defense side constantly point out that racing coverage is more expensive then gimmick shows, while the foundation of this channel is motorsports.

WHEN THE EEEEEEEEEFFFFFF has a tape delayed DTM race for example ever get aired 5pm-9pm on a weekday? No it gets played in the winter at noon-2pm when everyone is at work.

I would love to see for one race season, where for example, 2 or 3 races are tape delayed monday through thursday 5pm to 10pm. So Monday play tape delayed DTM - V8SuperCar from the weekend, tuesday moto gp, sbk,ama wednesday tape delayed A1GP - WTCC - BTCC and on and on..

PLENTY of room for the gimmick shows, leave the night open for pinks, superbikes for their hardcore fans to record it

Speed channel proudfully displays all the racing they air, why instead of waiting to tape delay all the good stuff in the worst time slots of winter... maybe try to present it to new people during a decent time slot...perhaps its not as PROFITABLE, but a much more balanced channel in the future...

If you don't have real racing... you can't sell the gimmick shows...thats just my opinion

Especially the announcer. Would rather see something like Powerblock on Spike where we can actually learn something. Failing that, how about some SCCA rallying, hillclimbs (Pikes Peak, etc), LSR (land speed racing), offroad racing, motorcycle trials, open road racing, or 5th Gear and Top Gear from the BBC. There is a myriad of autosports that y'all don't even come close to covering.

Fantasy SPEED Channel: What would YOU want to be broadcast and why?

Now of course the majority of us wants to see racing...ALOT of racing. Well, let's say SPEED channel all of a sudden said, "ok we heard the complaints. We give in. What kind of racing do you want us to show?"

You were given a list and they wanted you to fill out what series you want to see.
What would be on your list and why?

I'll go first:

1. Formula One: It's the jewel of motorsport. F1 I think should be a vital series to have.

2. Super GT: I put this down here because I would love for SPEED to have a series for everyone. And I think rice burners would love to see Japanese sports cars race.

3. Sports Car Racing: Same thing with Super GT but for those who like exotic sports cars.

4. 24 Hours of Le Mans: dedicate a FULL 24 hour time-slot to just this race

5. WRC: I'm medicore when it comes to WRC. But It would be good passing time to have.

6. A1GP: A perfect thing to prep people up for Formula class racing...not to mention root for Team USA!

7. MotoGP: again...not my thing but an appropiate add-on.

Well. That's all I can think of. What would you want broadcast?
