DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Nov. 19, 2009) - Fresh off of winning the U.S. National Streetluge Championship last week in California, GRAND-AM Road Racing veteran Andy Lally has made last minute plans to enter the International Gravity Sports Association World Championships next week in Australia.

Lally, who won the Rolex 24 At Daytona this past season and earned victories in both the GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series and KONI Sports Car Challenge, will be one of over 50 racers trying to qualify for the 32 spots available.

"Of all the different kind of racing I have done in my life, streetluge is one of the things that puts the biggest smile on my face," said Lally, a former streetluge champion. "I was supposed to be relaxing a bit this winter but when the car racing season started winding down a bit I was able to pick up a few streetluge races and things went really well.

"We were able to win both luge classes at the September IGSA World Cup event held in Maryhill, Wash., and then went to California last week for the National Championships and I was fortunate to win that against some very good guys and close competition," Lally continued. "I see this trip to Australia as a rare opportunity to try an accomplish something not a lot of people get to do, so I'm going to go for it."

The IGSA World Championships will be held Nov. 27-29, 2009 in Bathurst, NSW, Australia at the famous Mount Panorama race track, famously known as Bathurst.

"The pressure is certainly on not to mess up qualifying!" Lally said. "I have help from Seismic Wheels and Project 4 for this event and I hope we can do everyone back home proud. There are some extremely talented riders entered from all over the world so I will be working hard to make sure I bring my best stuff."

Last year the event dubbed "Newton's Playground" was incredible in many aspects so this year the IGSA decided to award "Newton's" World Championship status. The course is challenging, technical and fast with top speeds in the 105 km/h (65 mph) range down a 1.3-kilometer course, starting from Skyline at the top of the iconic Mt Panorama circuit, and finishing on Conrod Straight.

You can follow the IGSA results at http://www.IGSAworldcup.com and on Twitter at http://Twitter.com/IGSAworldcup.

As many of you might know there has been an increase interest in time attack series such as the Redline Time Attack series..

http://www.redlinetimeattack.com/

Basically teams come in with their cars and compete in certain classes according to car type and modification and goes out to see who can get the quickest hot lap. Basically it seems like autocross on a road course without cones.

To me time attacks are cool but ultimately senseless but to me it doesn't show the full potential of the car or the driver at all. One flying lap doesn't mean that car is kick butt nor does it prove that car is the best which is proven in F1. In F1 just because that car has P1 on the grid doesn't mean it'll have P1 at the end of the race. Time attack gives a false sense of what a quick car or driver or even team should and is.

Second time attack is dominated by top notch teams and well funded teams. A regular driver does not stand a chance unlike autocross which any average Joe or Jane can do well even with their daily beater. Some teams are spending thousands upon thousands of dollars for what- one lap time? That's just ludicrous to me.

I know others might differ but what do you think? Time attack yah or time attack nay?

What do you all think about the Super-car Life Racing Team in the Rolex Series introducing a Ferrari engined Daytona Prototype for 2010?? They have been hinting several times in this year that they have one in development, and that it's coming along nicely. I really hope this projects takes off big time so that Ferrari's interest is peaked once again in Prototypes racing!

If it does appear in 2010, then it would mark the first year in over 10 years that we have seen a Ferrari engine in a prototype. The last one I remember was the open cockpit 333SP. That was a cool car, and sad to see it go. However! This new Ferrari Daytona Prototype should be a nice return. Even though it is not a factory backed car. Any thoughts welcome, but please tread lightly.
