Buried in the back of page two is a rather big announcement. I can see this having a big impact on some of the tracks the ICS runs on since revenues at those tracks will drop significantly. This may spell the end for some of the ISC oval tracks by 2011. From what I have read these free tickets have been responsible for as much as 25% of the attendees in the stands. Not good if you're a track owner.

Very interesting article from Cavin... former Lola Chief designer Ben Bowlby (who now works for Ganassi) is designing the car. Looks like a cross between a sportscar and a motorcycle and several of the team owners support it, including Tony George. I believe this is the guy who designed the Lola CART chassis all through the 90s and until 2002 or so.

According to Jose Teixeira the Chief Editor of a Venezuelan Auto magazine, E.J. is negotiating with 2 teams. One is owned by a former Champion, the other has drivers that wear red.

The Venezuelan was supported by PDVSA, PDV, CANTV, Aserca Airlines and Grand Prix Tours, among others.

According to the media reports Viso will announce the deal shortly.
Rumor control has it [source = OWR pay site] the pending dissolution of A1GP may be [in part] the rationale for the delayed IndyCar Brazil GP announcement... with IndyCar picking up the potentially defunct A1GP race scheduled at Autódromo José Carlos Pace in São Paulo on March 14, 2010.

This thread is merely for your consideration / speculative enjoyment. It is not intended to celebrate the pending end of A1GP or serve in an inflammatory capacity regarding the oft-delayed IndyCar Brazil date/site.

Sounds like we would have a deal to race there if Tony George was still in charge

Some feel this is an ideal time to bring the IndyCar Series to Mazda Raceway, now that there is a unified series. When I spoke recently with IndyCar officials, they said they love to race here but there were two stumbling blocks, a date and money.

Campbell says a date has been agreed upon, but the fee IndyCar wants is out of our league. Tony George, who founded and operated the series since 1994, long coveted Mazda Raceway but he is no longer in charge. Apparently, the family put the kibosh on the millions of the family fortune Tony was spending each year.

Anyway, we've got a dance date but no one to dance with.

Open wheel fans, email jlewis at indycar dot com (that's john Lewis) and let your feelings be known. There is no reason for the exorbitant fee the series wants. If they can come down we can get the open wheel racing back on track.
