The IRL confirmed that they'll return to The Glen on the same weekend, July 3-5, in 2009. Wondering if that means Toronto will be the following weekend or not at all? Doesn't seem to make much sense to have The Glen & Toronto back to back considering they're so close to each other.

It seems the Dallara is a very fragile, and difficult to rebuild, chassis. With the unification and so many races back to back to back, teams just aren't able to keep up on repairs. Part of that could be the design of the car so perhaps the series should look outside of normal manufacturing sources such as Lola, Dallara, Panoz, etc, and maybe ask someone like Audi to design and build the next chassis. What Audi's done with the old R8 and the new R10 is simply amazing. Both were designed for quick parts changeability and are also very durable. That's the kind of thing the series needs.

Recent article today posted on speedtv.com saying that a return to AOWR is plan b for Dario. Personally, I would take him back since his return would boost the talent level and name recognition factor of the IRL. However, what does it mean when he says the IRL is plan b? I assume that he means that he's "been there, done that", but to others not too familiar with OWR, it could look bad. Here's a guy that would rather share time in a Nationwide tin-top rather than return to one of the big three in the IRL, be instantly competitive and win races. You would think that the guy would take a look at J. Villenueve and see what happened to him. Why not stick with what you do best? (I know money, money, money).

I hope he does come back. The IRL has lost momentum of late that they had with Danica, Rahal and the overall merger. It could use a spark.

Apparently 93% of the attendees said they would like to be involved in the new engine spec for the series. 100 % said they will attend the next session. It appears almost every participant agreed that a turbo is the way to go and the league agreed. It also appears at this time it will be a V-6 but the league would like them to consider a 4 cylinder model. Other gossip, with Carl Haas and Paul Newman gettting up in age it appears that they will be a 1 car team with Justin Wilson being their driver with McDonalds sponsorship. Graham Rahal apparently has caught the captains eye and he will make an offer he cant refuse and be racing for Penske Racing.

So we're halfway through the season, time to make your best guestimate on what the season ending standings will look like. Here's the current top 15:

1. Dixon
2. Castro-Neves
3. Wheldon
4. Kanaan
5. Patrick
6. Mutoh
7. Andretti
8. Briscoe
9. Servia
10. Carpenter
11. Power
12. Viso
13. Hunter-Reay
14. Foyt
15. Miera

- I think the top 4 is set. There's a 49 point gap between 4th and 5th, which will be too big to overcome. So all that remains is the order of the top four.

- 50 points seperate 5th thru 13th. This is where the major jockeying will occur. And only 10 points seperate 5th thru 8th.

- Wilson and Rahal are two and four points, respectively, behind Meira in 15th with the road courses coming up.

So here is my prediction for the final standings:

1. Dixon - best team and driver this year
2. Castro-Neves - smooth and consistant, but not enough to catch Dixon
3. Kanaan - crashes cost him - 82 points is too much to make up
4. Wheldon - a little too inconsistant
5. Andretti - shows his talent on the road courses, but can't make up for the early crashes
6. Briscoe - top 5 contender at most races
7. Viso - great car control and fearless, paired with Cannon, he'll be on a podium
8. Power - better on the road courses than his more consistant team mate
9. Hunter-Reay - RLR is gelling, and he cut his teeth in Atlantics
10. Servia - will challenge for top tens, but not podiums
11. Patrick - outclassed by the CC guys, but won't make mistakes and will bring the car home
12. Wilson - will challenge for a couple top fives, but NHL plays it conservative
13. Carpenter - hangs on to the top 15 with consistant mid-pack finishes
14. Rahal - still making rookie mistakes and trying too hard
15. Mutoh - he's kind of an unknown here, can't rely on aero and AGR setups
