But, this weekend was really all about the cars and the great racers who drove them to victory. As far as the cars were concerned, basically every version of a Porsche race car was somewhere in the garage area. 914's, 550 Spyders, 908's, 910's, 911 RSR's, 934's, 935's, GT1's, Daytona Prototypes the RS Spyder from the American Le Mans Series and even a tricked out Cayenne from the Trans-Siberian Rally.
The line up of drivers was every bit as impressive. Legends such as Derek Bell, Brian Redman and SPEED's own David Hobbs were scattered throughout the garage area. Other stars such as Chip Robinson, David Piper and Patrick Long could be found behind the wheel at speed.
A special autograph session held on Saturday brought them all together. A limited number of fans who made a $25 donation to Camp Boggy Creek had the rare opportunity to get a Porsche Rennsport Reunion 3 event poster signed by some of the greatest wheelmen in history. It was some of the best money I have ever spent. One poster of all of the 917 drivers for my office and one with all of the 956/962 drivers for my son's room, and all for charity.

An invitation to the Porsche VIP dinner on Saturday night offered some of the best racing stories I have ever heard. Brian Redman and David Hobbs kept the crowd laughing with their anecdotes, while George Follmer, Jackie Oliver, Vic Elford, Derek
Bell and others recounted tales of their days behind the wheel. Redman stunned everyone when he offered up that he was only paid $500 every time he drove a 917, except for when he raced at Daytona, Sebring and Le Mans. Then he cashed checks for an even grand.
Surprisingly, as great a race car as the 917 was, they all discussed how much they hated testing the car. They claimed it was a frightening beast in it's early development stages and they did everything they could to avoid test sessions in the machine. Forcing the younger drivers on the Porsche factory squad to handle the R&D. The only driver who loved the car with an intense passion, even though it was a handful even for him, was "Quick Vic" Elford, who declared he loved the car like a woman.
It was an outstanding weekend even if you aren't a Porsche fan. The incredible display of some of the greatest racing machines in history as well as the opportunity to visit with the legends who drove them to victory made it a very special weekend. The folks at Porsche have promised that there will be a Porsche Rennsport Reunion 4. The biggest problem is we have to wait three years.
