Ryan Newman boosted his effort once drivers started drafting at Daytona International Speedway. The Penske Racing driver posted the fastest time in the Tuesday afternoon NASCAR Sprint Cup test at the track.
Newman's lap of 188.013 mph put a Dodge on top of the speed chart for the first time during this week's four sessions. The Toyotas that dominated the opening trio of non-drafting practices fell back a bit, earning only three of the top 10 spots.
Dale Earnhardt Inc. rookie Regan Smith ran the second-fastest lap of the session at 187.625 mph. His teammate Paul Menard was third in his Chevrolet, followed by Richard Childress Racing's Kevin Harvick (Chevrolet) and Chip Ganassi Racing's Dario Franchitti (Dodge).
