In a surprise announcement Tuesday, Australia's Ryan Briscoe confirmed his return to IndyCar racing for next month's Indianapolis 500 with a new team, but one with some very solid connections.

Luczo-Dragon Racing, owned jointly by Roger Penske's son, Jay, and fellow Los Angeles-based entrepreneur Steve Luczo, will lease one of Penske Racing's Dallara-Honda entries at Indy, and will field the car as No. 12, with backing from data management company Symantec. Veteran Jay Signore, longtime head of the International Race of Champions, will serve as team manager.

Briscoe, a former Formula 1 test driver and currently racing in the American Le Mans Series with Penske's Porsche RS Spyder team, had a star-crossed stint in IndyCars with Target Chip Ganassi Racing in 2005 that was punctuated by a number of heavy crashes.
He started 24th and finished 10th in his only Indy 500 start, but says he is eager for another chance.

"I want to thank Symantec and Luczo-Dragon Racing for the opportunity to return to the greatest spectacle in racing," said Briscoe. "My experience at the Speedway provides me with a lot of confidence as I head into my second month of May at Indianapolis. I am looking forward to the chance to build on what I experienced as a rookie."

"I look forward to my first year as a team owner, and knowing what a unique opportunity it will be to participate in the Indianapolis 500," said Luczo. "Jay and I have been great friends, share a competitive resolve to win, and that, combined with the support of the Penske organization, we believe will enable us to field a highly competitive entry for this year's Indy 500."
