Giancarlo Fisichella admits he's frustrated that he's having to wait for news from Fernando Alonso before he knows whether he has a future with Renault.
Like many other drivers the Italian is in limbo until it's clear whether Alonso is leaving McLaren to come back to Renault.
If he does return, the likelihood is that Flavio Briatore will pair the Spaniard with rookie Nelson Piquet and place Heikki Kovalainen elsewhere, leaving Fisichella without a seat.
"It's not easy," Fisi told SPEEDtv.com. "It's very frustrating waiting for the answer of Fernando and of Renault. It's not easy at the end of the season, because there are not a lot of seats left. Especially as I worked with them for three years, and I think I did my best, and my contribution was good. We won two championships.
"Even this year with Heikki we did a good job considering our pace, we are third in the championship. It would be nice to be confirmed, mentally especially."
Fisichella insisted there were still some other opportunities available should Renault not rehire him:
He added that he was not surprised that Alonso had had a difficult time at McLaren.
"Here Fernando fitted very well, he was very comfortable. Maybe there he didn't find the same atmosphere, he felt a little bit different from here, and so that's why he's still struggling sometimes."
Meanwhile Fisichella is hoping for a good weekend at the track where he scored his first win – in the wet – with Jordan four years ago.
"It's a nice circuit, and we enjoy to drive here. In the past it was really bumpy, this year with the new surface it is a lot better. It's a tough race physically and mentally, but I've got a great memory because I won in 2003, so it's a good circuit for me."
