GP2 Series points leader Timo Glock resumed his BMW Sauber testing duties by posting the fastest lap in the opening day of this week's Formula 1 testing sessions at the Jerez de la Frontera circuit in Spain, the final FIA-sanctioned F1 test of the season.

Glock, whose future with BMW remains unknown at this point – the German has reportedly been linked with a possible race drive with Toyota next year – clocked a fastest lap of 1:20.606, beating the surprising Toro Rosso of Vitantonio Liuzzi by 0.6sec. Red Bull Racing tested Sebastien Buemi was third quickest, just 0.029 further back.

Toyota tester Franck Montagny was fourth, while McLaren's Pedro de la Rosa rounded out the top-five. Renault's Nelson Piquet Jr., who will drive for the French team in all three days of the test, ended up sixth.

Honda's Rubens Barrichello put a revised version of the RA107 to the test, featuring a McLaren-like "bridge" front wing, but could do no better than seventh in the nine-car field completed by Williams' Kazuki Nakajima and Ferrari tester Luca Badoer.

Testing resumes tomorrow as
preparations continue for the Japanese Grand Prix at Fuji Speedway in a fortnight.
