F1: Prodrive Nears McLaren Deal

Richards: looking for a new partner? (LAT Photo) ยป More Photos

McLaren remains the likeliest partners for Prodrive's planned 2008 entry into Formula 1, company boss David Richards insists.

With most top teams already destining a significant portion of their resources to develop their '08 contenders, Richards' camp remains entirely quiet about the new outfit's shape for next year, be it regarding chassis, engine or drivers.

The silence prompted speculation that satellite Mercedes racing team HWA, which runs in the DTM and Formula 3 Euroseries, could end up buying Richards' spot. But the Briton guarantees that won't be the case.

"McLaren is one of three possible options
for us, but they are closest," he told London's The Times. newspaper.

"We will not be able to make an announcement until next month but talks are progressing very well and we will be on the Formula 1 grid in 2008."
