F1: Ferrari Opens Criminal Enquiry Against Former Chief Mechanic

Former Ferrari chief mechanic Nigel Stepney is being investigated by the Modena district attorney's office at the Scuderia's request, autosport.com reports.

Stepney, one of the team's key technical department members under Ross Brawn's tenure as technical director, is suspected to be involved in a case of leaked information, even though the Scuderia refrained from confirming the nature of the complaint it's filed against the Briton.

"Ferrari have taken action against Nigel Stepney, and there is now an investigation," a team spokesman confirmed to autosport.com.

With Ross Brawn taking a sabbatical this year, Stepney, who
had hoped to also step down temporarily, ended up moved to a new factory job within Ferrari. He's been with the company for over a decade, having joined the Italian outfit from Benetton together with Brawn. The Scuderia also confirmed that the Brit remains formally an employee of the team.
