Aboard a Ferrari F2007 boasting several new aerodynamic parts, Felipe Massa easily paced the final day of Formula 1 testing activities at the Silverstone circuit in England, the last chance of track time for the teams ahead of the French Grand Prix at Magny-Cours on July 1.
With a best lap of 1:20.805, the Brazilian was nearly 0.7sec quicker than Williams' Nico Rosberg in second place. Just 0.010 behind the German sophomore came Fernando Alonso's McLaren, which was limited to just 58 laps in the rain-hit session. Renault tester Nelson Piquet Jr. and Toyota's Jarno Trulli yesterday's leader, rounded out the top-five in the nine-car field (Spyker worked with two drivers, Christijan Albers and Giedo van der Garde).
"This week has gone pretty well for us," the Italian revealed. "We've concentrated mainly on preparation for next month's British Grand Prix here but we've also done work in preparation for the coming race at Magny-Cours next weekend. Today I did some tyre comparisons and put some mileage on some other systems on the car.
"We've been reasonably quick here over the last three days but all that matters is what you can achieve at the races. So far the season hasn't gone as well as we'd hoped but we will continue to push to get the best out of the package in the next few weeks.
"I'm looking forward to coming to race at Silverstone because I believe
Honda and Aguri, meanwhile, wrapped up their activities at the Jerez circuit in Spain with racers Jenson Button and Anthony Davidson.
