Under pressure at Toyota, where he's been largely outpaced by teammate Jarno Trulli this season, Ralf Schumacher topped the charts in the first day of this week's Formula 1 testing activities at Silverstone in England, which marked the return of the circus to European soil following the North American doubleheader.
The veteran German posted a best lap of 1:22.794 to outpace McLaren tester Pedro de la Rosa by 0.121. Red Bull's Mark Webber was third, some 0.5sec off Ralf's pace and 0.2sec ahead of Renault's Heikki Kovalainen. Ferrari test driver Luca Badoer rounded out the top-five among the 10 drivers in action at the Northamptonshire circuit this Tuesday, when most teams focused on aerodynamic testing ahead of the French Grand Prix on July 1.
American Scott Speed is scheduled to test tomorrow. Today, teammate Vitantonio Liuzzi posted the seventh-best time for Scuderia Toro Rosso. Super Aguri and Honda did not take part in the sessions.
