Sebastien Vettel did exactly what was asked of him at Indy on Friday as he played himself in prior to his first race seat.
The German had nor driven the car since April, but it did not take him long to get up to speed. He was fourth in the morning session, and 11th in the afternoon.
"Obviously it was going quite well, we did a lot of mileage and we were able to find out a lot about the tires, and about the setup of the car, so we just tried to progress. I think it's a normal Friday, as usual.
"Of course, it's a completely new task for me, but so far I'm quite happy with what I did. Now it's about working together with the team and find out the maximum for tomorrow and Sunday.
"Under these circumstances you never wish to get a race seat, but from the beginning of the season I have been active as a reserve driver, and this is what can happen."
He insisted that he hadn't thought about a possible target for this weekend.
"Expectations, to be honest I don't have. Today it was important to get used to the car again, and then we will see tomorrow after qualifying. You could see in Montreal we were quite quick, and also here it looks not so bad, so we will see.
"The track is quite good, it's a nice rhythm, and it's quite interesting with the banking to drive. After a couple of times you get used to it. It's fun."
