Toyota boss John Howett admits that the team has no real explanation for the tardy pace of Ralf Schumacher in Monaco, after the German was left trailing behind teammate Jarno Trulli.

Ralf was 20th in the morning session and 20th again in the afternoon, and even then managed to crash in the Swimming Pool section in the last minute of practice.

Howett said he was encouraged by the pace of Trulli, who was fourth in the afternoon, some 2.3s ahead of his beleaguered teammate.

"It's very encouraging," Howett told SPEEDtv.com. "In Barcelona we were genuinely in the top six, and we had a very good test at Paul Ricard. So we expected to be competitive. We'd
just like to get two cars up there!

"I don't know about Ralf, we just have to talk to him. He had a successful test and this morning they were running similar times. I think on sector times he was fairly competitive with Jarno, but he didn't really get a lap together. Basically there's no problem with the car. He ran a more or less similar program."
