F1: Toyota, Renault Support Spyker as Bosses Meet

Bernie Ecclestone gathered the F1 team principals together in Sepang on Saturday morning and insisted that a solution be found to the customer car issue.

Significantly both Toyota boss Tsutomu Tomita and Renault's Flavio Briatore expressed their displeasure about the situation and expressed their support for the course of action taken by Spyker.

Both team have been keeping a low profile on the issue, which is particular sensitive for Toyota as it cannot be seen in Japan to be taking on the highly popular Aguri Suzuki. However, Tomita was reportedly very vocal on the subject.

Although Spyker has already set the legal process of arbitration in motion, Ecclestone is keen that an out of court settlement be found. If Spyker wins the arbitration case the Toro Rosso
and Aguri cars could be deemed illegal and thus the entry list will lose four cars. Although that is a worst case scenario, it is one that Bernie cannot allow to happen.

In essence any solution revolves around a redistribution of the cash that the two teams would usually receive.

In the meeting Ecclestone apparently wound up Briatore and Ron Dennis by declaring that the "constructors points of the inter-related teams be combined…"
