Sophomore Will Power led a sweep of Champ Car youngsters in the final day of testing at Houston's MSR circuit.
After a first day of torrential rains, the weather improved on Tuesday and the 15-car field was able to extract the new DP01's full potential. With a best lap of 1:10.049, the Team Australia driver outpaced Newman/Haas' rookie Graham Rahal by just 0.039, while PKV Racing's Neel Jani, another rookie, carded a quickest run of 1:10.168 to complete the top-three.
"The fact that we understand the car and how to make the car fast is the most important thing we got out of today, but it's nice to be fastest at the end of the day," said Power, the 2006 rookie-of-the-year. "I pretty much knew what I wanted to get out of the car and the crew did a great job getting it done."

Jani added: "I'm impressed with how high the talent level is here in Champ Car. It's good to know that we can run with the top guys and that we are not too far off the pace. But the team and myself, we don't come out here to finish third, we want to win. So we have a lot more to do. I thought I could have run a 1:09 at the end because the team did a great job with the car."
Reigning triple champion Sebastien Bourdais was fourth in the second N/H entry, 0.3s off the pace. Bruno Junqueira rounded out the top-five for Dale Coyne Racing, ahead of Simon Pagenaud, who was confirmed to race for Team Australia this season.
Nelson Philippe put the sole Conquest entry on P7, while RuSPORT's Justin Wilson, who was fastest on Monday, was eighth. Minardi's Robert Doornbos and RuSPORT's Oriol Servia completed the top-10, leaving a disappointed
"Nothing went right for us today and we are so far behind right now," the Forsythe man said. "But with everything that happened, to still pull out a decent lap at the end of the day gives us something to build on. Everybody is pretty frustrated but they don't give any points for today, so we have to go work on being ready for Vegas."
Testing resumes at Laguna Seca on March 7-10.
