LE MANS: Rally Champ Loeb to Sit Out

Triple World Rally Champion Sebastien Loeb has opted to sit out the 2007 edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Loeb, who drives for Citroen in the WRC, steered a Pescarolo-Judd LMP1 prototype in 2005 and 2006, giving the Audi R8s a run for their money in '05, when the Pescarolos were faster but let down by poor reliability, and finishing second to Audi's R12 last year.

But with Peugeot fielding two new diesel-powered 908s to challenge
the R12s, the Frenchman has chosen not to drive for Pescarolo again.

"I'm not planning on racing at Le Mans this year," he said. "This decision has been taken because I won't be able to take part under the best conditions, and Henri Pescarolo shares the same analysis.

"In my first two races at Le Mans, I've had chances to win it. Even though the ACO have made changes in favor of gasoline cars, it's just not enough to even up the field."
