SPEED, the definitive network for motor sports and the automotive lifestyle, and L’Automobile Club De L’Ouest have reached a three-year agreement to continue its popular live broadcast coverage of the Le Mans 24 Hours endurance race, including 19 hours of live coverage on the linear network and more than six hours on SPEEDtv.com from this weekend’s event.

The agreement starts with this year’s much-anticipated show, and extends through the 2011 fete at the famous 8.5-mile Circuit de la Sarthe, located within the picturesque countryside of France. Also a part of the agreement, SPEED will have extensive rights to online and new media content through SPEEDtv.com and its multi-platform partners, including live in-race video streaming and on-site chats, which will start during this year’s edition.

Each broadcast will be a partnership with the TWI world feed.

“Le Mans has long been one of the network’s staple events,” said Rick Miner, SPEED SVP of Studio Production & Operations. “This announcement reinforces our commitment to bringing you the best coverage from one of the world’s greatest motorsports events. And with the new platforms and access we have to the event, the volume of information we will provide will be the most extensive yet.”

SPEED has been the home of Le Mans since 1996, when David Hobbs, Derek Daly and Sam Posey provided the network’s inaugural coverage. Today SPEED has dedicated a full talent
team with Bob Varsha and Leigh Diffey handling the race call… analysis from David Hobbs, Calvin Fish and Dorsey Schroeder as well as Brian Till, Chris Neville and Justin Bell in the pits. SPEED will update every aspect of the race from the grid, and will be supported by SPEEDtv.com’s numerous platforms of depth and information.

“The 24 Hours of Le Mans is one of the most important races in the world,” said, Hillary Mandel, SVP of Programming and Distribution at IMG, who handles and distributes Le Mans 24 television rights to more than 120 countries and 500 million homes around the world. “The race has great appeal to sponsors representing some of the most sophisticated brands in the world, as well as the most serious fans of the sport. We are pleased to be working with SPEED to ensure the broadest possible coverage of this great motorsport event.”
