In a world of ultimates it can be hard to be noticed. Not so with the mighty 2006 Corvette Z06. Long after something comes 'round that's faster (which just occured in the birth of the ZR5, boasting a top speed of 205 miles per hour and a price tag over $300,000) - the Z06 will be a Corvette to remember. Get this: 505 horsepower. That's 505 from a small-block V-8 stretched to 427 cubic inches and wholly rejiggered in the C6 Corvette that's trimmer and meaner than its predecessor, and faster too. Zero to 60 in 4.1 seconds. A 12.0-second quarter-mile at 124 miles per hour. A genuine top speed of 198 miles per hour. All in an automobile unflustered by rush hour traffic and with an EPA fuel mileage estimate of 16 city/22 highway miles per gallon. And it isn't limited to a Bonneville Salt Flats - type of performance. Bigger brakes and stiffer suspension, monster tires - the rears are 325/30ZR Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar run-flat tires on 12.0x19-inch wheels - give the Z06 the cornering ability of a ferret during working hours. Advanced technology includes aluminum and magnesium in the undercarriage and carbon-fiber front fenders.
